Proper Refrigerator Maintenance Tips
It’s impossible to quantify how important and essential our refrigerators are. A fridge is one of the vital appliances in modern life and our daily life. However, important or not, it’s often neglected and taken for granted, especially when it comes to proper refrigerator maintenance, even for the most careful people. As you know, the fridge is one of the most hardworking appliances that run non-stop every day, 24/7 so they really deserve your careful attention. So, other than cleaning and clearing out odious smelling food, have you ever done proper maintenance on your refrigerator? Make it last for a long time by doing these simple maintenance tasks:
Keep the Condenser Coils and Fans Clean
You should clean the condenser coils and fans once a year. Remove the grate on the bottom of your fridge and clean up the underside with a brush. These condenser coils have an important job because they there to remove heat from the fridge and freezer. Of course, before you clean, make sure the fridge is unplugged and just get a brush to clean up all the dirt from the cooler fan, coils, and basically everything else. You should also follow your fridge’s instructions from the owner’s manual as well.
Check the Door Seals Properly
This is basically a common issue for a lot of homeowners. You take out something from the fridge, shut it and it should close shut, right? However, there have been many times where you come back to the fridge an hour later to see the door a bit open. Usually, it’s because of the gasket; the rubber part of the fridge that goes along the edge of the fridge doors to seal it off when closed to maintain a consistent temperature inside. That’s why you should clean the gaskets twice a year with baking soda and water and make sure that it’s clear of any residue or dirt. If it needs replacing though, call a professional to help you.
